Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil Review

I have loved this product for soooo long and thought it was about time I wrote a rave review...and with it being National Earth Day what better a time to take a peep at this natural all organic product!

I first was introduced to Weleda Pomegranate Body Oil back when I received a bottle in my first ever Glossybox, which was many many moons ago...I remember using it to soothe my achey skin and keep those stretchmarks at bay when I was pregnant with Finley. Everything has come full circle and now he loves it more than I do...if that's possible.

As you probably know I am a skincare addict and love anything that promises to moisturise and banish my flakey dry skin...hurry up summer I need some Vitamin D! A while back I posted about my current skincare loves here, but this is that good it deserves a post all on its own.

You know when you stumble across a miracle cure that you have been searching for forever, well this is my miracle product for Finners of all people. He has inherited my sensitive pale skin that drys and gets chapped at the slightest touch of cold weather and with the Winter that is never ending and is still here in the UK at the end of April he has suffered a little more than most. 

Those poor little cheeks were looking worse for wear and no amount of body butter or E45 was shifting it, then one day I ran out of his beloved vanilla coconut oil (which I cannot find anywhere now :( booo) and as a treat used the pomegranate oil after his bubbly bath from head to toe...concentrating the majority of product on his little nose and cheeks. 

I woke up in the morning and to my surprise his little chapped cheeks were soooo much better, I gave him another smothering the next night and every night after and I would say within 3 days he was back to normal. It sounds too good to be true but trust me it works wonders, even I still cant believe my luck at using it once as an emergency and now being in love ever since. 

Don't be scared of the thought of rubbing an oil into your skin, it glides on so easily and sinks straight in within minuets. I would say the texture is a little thinner than olive oil and a little definitely goes a long way!

I adore the fruity sweet fragrance to the oil, it always throws me straight back to being in those first months of pregnancy all excited and feeling those flutters, I love it when a smell does that...transports you right back to a moment in time. A little off track but Anna Sui Perfume - Sui Dreams always reminds me of when Matthew and I first met...and Nina Ricci - Nina was the perfume I wore on my wedding day :) hmmmm fuzzy happy memories.

Even Matthew comments on how lovely the Pomegranate Oil smells, every bath time he says to Finley 'ooooo you smell delishus':D

Overall would I recommend to new mums - YES would I repurchase - YES and I have done many times

The only thing I would query is the price, when I received my first ever bottle it was priced at £10 but since then I am now paying £17 - a slight hike in the price but totally worth it if you ask me! The last bottle I bought was from Ebay, great for bargain hunting as you can search for a good deal like getting free P+P. 

I would even suggest popping a few drops in an evening bath for some sumptuous relaxing me time and you feel extra nourished and moisturised afterwards. I really couldn't be without a bottle of this in the house, at the moment we have two! I am starting to buy in bulk for fear of running out haha...

If your little one is suffering from little patches of dry skin or chapped cheeks give this a go, you will be as surprised as I was and be soon be stocking up for yourself too.

Finley's Faves

 It has been a little while since I lasted posted about Finley's current Faves so I thought its about time I did an updated version. 

Rather than jotting down his favourite toys or books I wanted to show you all a little more of his personalty and what makes him tick :D 

Number 1 - Kissing *mwah* 

For a few months now Finley kind of grasped the idea of kissing and sometimes vaguely attempted to kiss you back, one of those strange open mouthed dribbly baby kisses! The one you try and dodge but deep down they are your baby so you have to let it go. But more recently he has given the cutest little pecks on the cheek, kisses goodnight and even kisses for his teddys. The other day when putting his to bed I said 'give teddy a kiss' just as a passing comment and he picked up his little teddy and gave it a kiss! *double take* hmmm it must be a fluke, but no every time I asked politely a little baby lips kiss flew its way over to teddy. Yay, so now we can ask Finley for kisses all day long :D He will also stroke when asked (picked that one up from the cats) although he has taken to stroking a kissing his Dads arm! Lets hope he grows out of that before he goes to school or he will be the kid that strokes and kisses arms rather than says hello! 

 Number 2 - Dancing

Lets be a little more precise, Disco Dancing! For some reason the beats of 70s disco classics are really floating his boat right now. You can put on the top 40 music channels on and maybe he might jig around a little to the beat but put on Smooth FM and he is off. Rocking side to side, bouncing up and down....we need to cool this boy down because this baby has got Disco fever!

Number 3 - Moving

Finley is loving moving in general....anywhere and everywhere! He loves climbing up, climbing down, crawling, bouncing, anything that involves those legs and arms wriggling around you can pretty much guarantee that he wants to do it! He hasn't quite grasped walking yet but I know it wont be long before he is zooming past me trying to catch the cat! 

This picture says everything and to be honest 95% of the pictures I take nowadays look exactly like this, our Finners just will not sit still...ever! Little disclaimer, there were 3 of us surrounding him to make sure he was okay, he is like P Diddy and we are like his posse of bodyguards!

  I would love to hear what your little ones are loving at the moment, it is great to see how individual such a tiny little person can be.

Philip Kingsley PK Baby Shampoo and Bodywash Review

Hi Everyone, hope you are all settling nicely into the new year and sticking to all those new year resolutions you set :D I haven't been too strict with myself resolution wise, a few bloggers out there have set out to blog everyday till 31st December 2013!! Wow, I'm not sure if I could keep up the pace for a year of daily blogging like Mummy B. But I may do a few months here and there of daily blogging in the future :) What do you think?

Lets get cracking with today's post, it is a review for you all on a fab product I was kindly sent by the team over at Philip Kingsley. 

If your not too familiar with Philip Kingsley you can pop over to their website here, they are of course fronted by the main man Philip Kingsley who I would say is a Doctor of hair. They really concentrate on what treatment your hair needs to get it in tip top condition, whether your hair be over processed, damaged, long or short etc. 

I have been aware of Philip Kingsley for some time now, I received a sample size version of his famous Elasticizer treatment in a Glossybox months and months ago. And his products regularly feature on QVC, it can be really helpful watching his team give the presentation on QVC as they often give hints and tips on the best products for you. 

The review today is on the wonderful Philip Kingsley PK Baby Shampoo and Bodywash. 

 For some time now I have been chopping and changing Finley's bath products to see what suits his skin best, he has inherited my pale, sensitive skin and no doubt get my freckles in the future! He is also prone to developing dry patches on his scalp, you can still see them poking through as he hair is still so short and fair! I really don't think it will ever grow haha!

In the past I have used a range of shampoos and bodywashes from Johnsons, Simple Baby, Supermarket brands, The Bodyshop and Burts Bees. But PK baby is so far the best I have tried. 

Here are a few of my favourite things 

1. The product itself is in a pump bottle, with normal baby products they have to be picked up and poured over either a sponge or into your hand.  But with the pump it takes just one hand whilst keeping the other free to either distract a splashing Finley or if they are still super tiny support their head and keep them from wriggling around. 

2. Another feature of the bottle I like is the sturdy round base, I have found that Johnsons bottles for example when half empty tend to fall over and develop a wobbly bottom Eekkkk!

3. The shampoo/bodywash itself is almost a gel formula, it is thick and silky and when I rubbed it into Finley's hair for the first time I was so shocked to see how it almost went into a creme texture, from what I have read on their website this is to prevent it running into their tiny sensitive eyes. Great Idea!

4. It doubles up as a bubble bath for soft conditioning bubbles 

5. There isn't an overwhelming strong fragrance, but one that is mild and has that 'clean' scent. 

6. Finley's dry patches on his head have totally cleared up, before using PK baby I was tempted to put Liz Earle superskin serum on his head to help but now there is no need :D yay.

The only niggle people may have is the price, for a 500ml bottle it will set you back £18. It does seem a lot of money for a baby wash but you only need one pump and a little goes a long way. Plus it has given Finley the results I have been looking for so the big question is would I repurchase....yes.

Our Twinkley Christmas Bun

Wow...nobody ever told me that once you have kids Christmas engulfs your whole life for the entire month of December. Wrapping, cleaning, list making, card designing, present ordering, food shopping....I'm tired out all over again just reading that! 

Everyday for the past week I sat in my good old blog writing area (the couch) to write blog posts on all sorts of exciting things but could I finish one of them, nope! I have 3 draft posts crying out for photos but i just haven't had chance to take them, one reason being I have been THE most busy Christmas person ever and analysing the 'big' food shop over and over until I think we have everything but a box of cotton buds in the trolley. And the second reason is there is no natural light anywhere! I have a weird 'thing' that I have to take pictures only in the day when there is an abundance of sunshine....not something that the North West is known for in the Winter! I need to buy that lightbox I keep promising myself!

Anyway I thought I would make use of the dark, gloomy, drizzly weather and off I went to grab Finley, some fairy lights and my camera!

After I made Matthew risk life and limb climbing on chairs to disassemble our kitchen fairy light feature all for the love of photography we headed to the darkest spot in the house to take a few snaps.

As with the majority of my posts this may be a little picture heavy, but hey who doesn't love looking at the most adorable pictures ever?! 

I have had this idea pinned on my Pinterest board for ages and I finally managed to tick it off :) I just wish we had time to re-do our Christmas cards as I would use one of these pics to send out to family!

Ever since Finley started crawling it has been so difficult to get any pictures of him sat still, the majority I get now are of a blurry baby zooming passed the camera or of him trying to escape up his stairgate. He was so fascinated by the lights he sat there playing with them patiently whilst I managed to get a few decent snaps in.

I think he looks like an angel in this picture, you could just imagine if it panned out there would be his beautiful white angel wings....

Its Officialy Christmas

...well it has been officially Christmas since last Sunday but I have only just got around to writing the post, it seemed to take me forever to edit these pics, I was distracted by all the festive-ness and started browsing Christmas songs on Youtube. Concentrate Kayleigh, concentrate! Here is a pre-warning - this may become a rather picture heavy post!

Anyway, I wanted to show you all a few snaps I took of us putting up the Christmas decorations ready for Finley's FIRST EVER Christmas. *yay*

To be honest I had imagined a lovely Sunday of making paper chains together, watching Elf and Finley rolling around on a bed of tinsel but the reality was slightly different. Instead we missed Elf because Uncle Buck was on, Matthew distracted Finley with the tree star whilst I took almost half an hour de-tangling beads, which you cant even see on the tree *sheesh* and to top it off Finley decides he dislikes the tinsel very much and doesn't agree to wear it as a garland he so promised when I was 8 months pregnant last December!

t still turned out to be a lovely family festive afternoon and we enjoyed creating our own little Santa's grotto, if I had my way I would have 100% more decs up but Matthew said I was already verging on tacky...but isn't that the whole idea? I wont bore you all to tears with a picture of every single decoration we own but here are a few snaps of the tree :) 

Once we got on a roll hanging up stockings and pinning up the bunting it didn't take too long to complete the look we have now, 'a colour jumble' if you will, I haven't gone for the traditional matchy matchy look, I prefer the rustic mis-matched look. I cant wait for next year for Finley to add some homemade baubles and hanging pictures, possibly even Spiderman if he doesn't mind living in the tree for a month. 

I just had to add that this is one of our Christmassy candles we currently have burning, now I'm not one for spices especially cinnamon and this goes against all my dislikes for a candle scent, but, I love it. It is a spice-fruit combo and smells just like well...Christmas! My other fave is Cranberry which came in a set we bought here.

I shall leave you with this lovely pic of Finely and I celebrating our decorations success. Oh, it is the law to wear your hair in a bun and wrap tinsel around it from the 1st December onwards :)

Nuby Blogger Competition

You may or may not know that sometime ago I entered the Nuby UK blogger competition that was advertised on their Facebook page, Nuby were looking for all kinds of family groups to represent them and test out some products. I had just re-launched the blog so I thought "hey, why not enter" but after seeing some amazing entries I was doubtful I would have even a small chance of my blog being read let alone winning.

However a week or so ago I heard back from the lovely team over at Nuby and they informed me that the loved my writing style and photography and excitingly Beauty Life and Babies came runner up :) *celebration dance* How great is that! I was happy enough that Nuby themselves gave me such compliments about my blog but as an extra special treat they offered to send me and Finley some goodies to try out! 

I received my lovely parcel from Nuby at the weekend and sat Finley down to open it together 

 :)  

  Is it just my baby that has more of an interest in the packaging of an item rather than the amazing present inside? 

I let Finners choose what he wanted to review first and he opted for the George Teether toy, perfect I thought, as I have a sneaky suspicion that his top teeth are well on their way. Mummy's choice is the new Grip and Sip sippy cup, I reviewed the old style here but already I can see the great improvements Nuby have made and shall be making a comparison post to show you all :) 

 I just wanted to thank Nuby for being extra generous and giving me the opportunity to review some of their lovely items for them.

Happy Halloween

How exciting, it was Finley's first Halloween yesterday :) 

I bought his Halloween outfit back in August, a little eager but I do love a bit of fancy dress. I opted for a spooky spider as there is little other option for anyone under 1, it was either this or a pumpkin. I cant wait to dress him up properly - face paint, dyed hair - the lot.

I planned on carving the pumpkins together but Finley had other ideas and opted to take a nap instead and Daddy has a fear of pulp so it left Mummy to do all the hard work. Shhhh don't tell them that I actually really enjoy carving pumpkins. An hour and a half later we ended up with these beauties 

Last year I did an owl style pumpkin which was soooo good (blows own trumpet) and I wanted to re-create it this year but the 'Finley's 1st Halloween' one took so long I went for the traditional 10 minute scary face! Perfect for the doorstep don't you think?

We had loads of trick or treaters, they seemed to arrive in packs! I answered the door with Finley dressed to the nines in his swish spider outfit and all the kids were saying "is that Finley" "awww, happy 1st Halloween". Then there were the few 'kids' I had doubts about, I'm unsure if a 15 year old girl wearing a onsie counts as a trick or treater, especially when she used her hands cupped together as a bag! hmmmmm! 

Overall a great 1st Halloween for Finley :) I had tried to get a picture of him sat between the pumpkins but his newly found crawing knees didn't stay put for longer than a second so I had to weigh up what was more important, perfect Halloween picture but an on fire baby or safe baby and okayish pictures.

Saturday Playdate

Finley has just gone down for his afternoon snooze so here I am to jot down the afternoons events. 

There's not much more to do on a rainy Saturday afternoon other than letting mummy Finley play with toys :) 

We dug into the toy basket and plucked out a few of Finley's faves to mess around with, however he seems to be teething a lot at the moment so he sat and chewed whilst I played with everything! 

He has his own little corner in our living room where we keep everything 'Finley', he has his toys, some of his books and his much loved Jumperoo.We recently bought some foam matts from Ebay to cushion that tiny bum and to protect his little head if he falls. 

We had great fun messing with toys, pressing buttons on phones and using rattles as mini hammers, he is so much more focused with his play now. For example is he drops his toy he will shuffle over to pick it up, rather than moving on to the next bright coloured thing he spots.

And just to top off this already very heavy picture post here is another beauty.

Overall we had a great little afternoon clanging toys together, chewing on poor Sophie Giraffe and laughing at his singing pig. These moments might not seem like much when you do them all the time but I like to stop and reflect as one day he will be running out of the front door to play with his friends!

This is my new mission to capture not only the big milestones and events that happen but the daily 'loves' that we will have with Finley.

Finleys Mega Manicure Tip

I don't know if all babies have superhuman fingernails that grow at the speed of light or if it is just Finley. I wanted to share my secret on how to give your baby the perfect safe manicure.

When Finley was tiny I was far too nervous to use nail clippers anywhere near his wavy, jumpy newborn hands so I just bit the little tips of his nails off after his bath. He never used to mind and because he was asleep most of the time he didn't even know it was happening. 

My challenge began when he became aware of what I was trying to do, pulling his hands away thinking I was playing some weird hand game. I thought to myself, if I file my nails then why shouldn't I file Finley's? 

Hmmmm now to grab an emery board and get cracking....I thought. Boots sell teeny tiny little emery boards but they are still very rough to the touch and with his nails being so thin they bend as soon as you push against them. 

On a quick side note soon after giving birth I randomly stopped biting my nails, I'm not sure why it was just one of those things that happened. Maybe because I didnt have chance to bite them holdinf/feeding a baby 24/7 haha. Because of my new found nail love Matthew treated me to some products from Leighton Denny. In the set he got me was this Crystal Nail File. Hmmmm I had an idea. 

 The file itself is brilliant, smooth, sleek and easy to use. It comes in an aluminium case so you can carry it around in your bag with no worries of it getting broken or use it as I do as a baby distraction tool for one hand whilst I file the other. With regular emery boards you have that sharp edge where the cardboard ends and it can slice your finger if you pull it down at the wrong angle. With Leighton's file it is rounded all the way around and completely smooth, ensuring a panic free baby manicure. The file itself is so smooth, when you run in along the nail it turns the filings into dust rather than breaking the nail off and catching, that is also a bonus because if you catch their little fingers they wont even notice. 

It takes me two minuets to file Finley's nails now with no tantrums or worry that I will hurt his tiny little fingers. I would say on average I file his nails once a week before they are getting a little sharp again.

Overall a fantastic product from Leighton both for me and Finley, you can get yours here and as an added bonus you get a 25 year guarantee so if for any reason it looses its file-ability you can get a new one :)

Clothing Christmas Haul

I have realised that I am much more Christmas obsessed than I first thought....another post in September.

The other day whilst browsing online I had a look to see if anywhere had any festive fancy dress in stock...I cant resist a bit of fancy dress. I didn't see anything earth shattering but I did find some Christmassy gems in Next.

The first thing I spotted were these snuggly sleepsuits

The Fairisle print on the left is far more up my street, I love the retro feel and if they made this in Adult size I would have it on right this minute. The second is a red and black stripey Christmas pud number, very cute and could be worn by little girlies too. 

 Both sleepsuits are in the size 9-12 months and came in a two pack for £12

By the time these were in my basket I went Christmas mad and decided to get Finley's Christmas Day outfit.  Here we have just a standard pair of jeans as he had none in his 9-12 month box of clothes, the best T-shirt ever and an adorable Christmas Pudding hat. 

Ignore all creases - They had just been de-parceled

The T-shirt has that wonderful Retro feel with the Fairisle heart, it is long sleeved for chilly December days but not too thick you can never let your baby wear it inside. 

The jeans are just a standard pair of denim elasticated waist band jeans...great feel and very soft for easy movement. I tend not to dress Finley in jeans at home, I always find them restricting so he is often seen sporting loungewear indoors....just like his mum and dad (Comfy pants are the way forward).

Finally there are not enough cute describing words (adjectives for you English teachers out there) in the world to go into detail on this bobble hat. Who wouldn't want to put this on your baby at Christmas, that's right nobody! I bought this is size 6-12months but because of Finley's 95th centile head it is a little snug, I'm sure if will be fine and I can always adjust if needed. It has a woollen knit look and a huge oversized red pom pom on top. I'm swooning already. 

I tried to get Finley to model the hat for you all but he was too interested in scooting in his walker so excuse the blurry pic. 

I still have two other things that are due to be delivered tomorrow but they are not Christmas related - surprisingly.

Sippy Cup Top Trumps

I was sat here trying to come up with a cool idea on how to review these two sippy cups without the obvious humdrum same old same old blog post, my original idea was 'Sippy Wars' but that seemed slightly ott for a baby blog. So I have settled on 'Sippy Cup Top Trumps'

The two sippy cups that are battling it in the face off are - 

1. The Nuby Grip and Sip (Old Skool Version) Even though this is the older version you can still get yours here

&

2. The Thermos Foogo - buy yours here

Both Sippys will be rated out of 10 in a number of categories and the winner will be the one with the highest score at the end. Easy Peasy.

Are we all ready....lets play Sippy Cup Top Trumps*cue X-factor style lighting change and dramatic music*

I'm going to start off shallow and judge them both on their looks (something never allowed on people....okay?) I would say both are appealing to the eye and look great, the Nuby cup has the funky edge where the Thermos is sleek looking with eye catching stainless steel. Personally I prefer the look of the Thermos mainly because it doesn't look like every other sippy cup out there....but read on further to see why there probably isn't another one like this on the market.

Next I will look at practicality - Both will score similar in this category as they are easy to take apart, easy to wash and both a handy size to place in your Baby bag. Neither of these cups leak and hold a very similar amount of water.

Now its time to look at the special features of each of the cups. Lets start with Nuby, as the cup is made of clear tinted plastic it is lightweight and easy for babys to lift and take a sip. You can easily see how much water your baby has had or if they need more. The best feature for me is the soft squishy plastic spout, it is so flexible and soft, something a must have for first time sippy users. Right lets take a gander at the Thermos, the insulated layer on the cup gets a big thumbs down from me. Apart from looking good I don't see any other use. Finley is not going to be stopping by at Starbucks anytime soon for a morning Latte with extra caramel syrup. Yes he might want cool water but I don't think he will mind it a few degrees warmer than it was a few hours ago. Hmmmmm I'm not sold on this thermos dealio. Also (sorry Thermos) you cannot see inside to have a nosey what is left and the insulated layer adds so much weight for tiny baby hands.

Last but not least the most important category - Which cup does Finley prefer. 

I can rant on about sippy cups all night but im not the one who uses them so this part of the test belongs to Finners. 

He has used both cups loads of times but from my observations I have seen that he uses the Nuby cup far more confidently. He tends to struggle with the weight of the Thermos and also has problems when his nose is pressed against the lid. With the Nuby he can chew the flexible spout and  his nose squishes into the lid with no problem.

Thermos - 6

I think we have a winner and that is Nuby with a total of 32 to Thermos who scored 27 - not a lot in the scores and this is just my opinion on both cups. I imagine the Thermos cup may be more handy when he is older but Nuby is the champion of Sippy Cups Top Trumps.

Finleys Favourite.....

I would like to run a regular post every so often on Finley's favourite 'thing' of that week or month. 

It could be absolutely anything from toys to food to games or even a strange habit. 

This week I will mention a few things that he is currently loving,

First off his favourite song, you may be expecting a pop song with an overly catchy tune but no not Finley. He is in love with a song called "French Navy" by Camera Obscura. Have a listen, you will probably recognise it from the sponsorship ad on Come Dine with Me. 

I could put it down to him having cultured taste and already loving music with meaning, but the likely explanation is that I have a un-healthy obsession addiction love for Come Dine with Me and he hears that 3 second Echo Falls ad almost daily.

Another love at the moment for Finley is the cats, great for him not so much for our 2 felines that are getting 'stroked' by tiny grabby baby hands.

He has always had his eye on them but recently he loves to interact with them and reaches for them when they pass by, giggles at them and smiles if they come over to say hello. We are trying to teach him to stroke gently but at the moment he just grabs the biggest clump of fur or an ear. They are so patient and we always supervise cat play so in no time im sure he will learn the basics :)
